MERCEDES SPRINTER VANS

FEATURE BUILD

2020 Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Olympic Snowboard Medalists, X Games Medalists, Wilderness First Responders, Extreme Rock Climbers, Women's Retreat Organizers, International Speakers, and just All Around Bad Asses... Chanelle Sladics @chanellesladics and Kjersti Buaas @kjerstibuaas reached out to Second Skin to help them convert their brand new Sprinter Van into a mobile command center for their new brand, BPRSNT @bprsnt . Because it's also going to be a living space, they needed it to be soundproofed, thermally insulated, and safe for their health! There's no cutting corners in a vehicle you plan to live in, so Second Skin was the clear choice! These two ladies are doing amazing things in life, and we were honored to help them launch their next adventure with this Mercedes Sprinter Van.

This 2020 Sprinter Van was the biggest model, the long and tall version, so there's a LOT of square footage to cover. It took 240 sq ft of Damplifier Pro to get 60% coverage on the entirety of the van, except the floor and wheel wells --- those are 100%! A whopping 126 sq ft of Luxury Liner Pro was used on the floor from the front cabin to the very rear, including over the wheel wells and on the cabin firewall. Next up, they used 40 sq ft of Mega Zorbe for the doors and cabin headliner. To finish, they installed 120 sq ft of Heat Wave Pro to the ceiling of the cargo area. They also used Havlok Wool on the walls of their van.

Don't miss out on these featured build photos! You don't want to miss seeing the first ever Yoga sound deadening poses!! Make sure to follow Chanelle and Kjersti as they travel the country. Don't forget to do your part to make the Earth a better place!!!

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Yup... that Sprinter van is huge.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Sprinter Van doors before Second Skin. They're bare and hollow, compounding the echoes of the flimsy metal.

Mercedes_Benz Sprinter Van Door Sound Deadening

The most important part of the door, the outer door skins. Cover them with Damplifier Pro to make them stronger and reduce flex.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

On the inner skin, you can scale back to about 40% coverage and still stop most of the structure born noise. The inner skin is stronger bent and welded metal. For both skins on 2 doors, it took about 16 sq ft of Damplifier Pro.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Chanelle putting in work on the Sprinter Van doors.

Mercedes-Benz Door Soundproofing

After killing the vibration, time for sound absorption. Mega Zorbe is a super lightweight, sound absorbing foam that has been treated to be water resistant. Check for window clearance before sticking the foam in permanently. These 2 doors have about 8 sq ft of Mega Zorbe on the outer skin.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

When treating vans and other vehicles with the engine closer to the driver (and sometimes below the driver), it is smart to use 100% coverage to stop the structure borne noise and to absorb the heat transfer from the engine bay and drive train.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

The cabin ceiling gets a solid layer of Damplifier Pro.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

The winning rendering for the wrap. All of the options were great (next slide!), but you gotta admit that this one POPS!

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Chanelle is now part of the foam finger club! When applying Mega Zorbe, be careful... those sheets are sticky!!!

Mercedes Sprinter Van Soundproofing

The Mega Zorbe goes on quick with that high temp self adhesive backing.

Sprinter Van floor sound deadening

Kjersti starts laying down the Damplifier Pro on the floor of cargo area in the Sprinter Van. For the floor of the van, the ladies went with about 60% coverage to stop the structure borne noise.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

So focused!!

Sprinter Van sound deadening

Chanelle using her roller to get the Damplifier Pro bonded to the metal nice and strong.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Don't forget your gloves! The edges of Damplifier Pro can be sharp. Wear protection.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

After the floor and walls are sound deadened, get the electrician in there to wire the power house.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Switches, gauges, and cool stuff for the power needed to live and work from the Sprinter Van

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Now that they have power, the heater and a/c unit can be installed. Gotta stay warm when ripping down those mountains!!

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Kicker subs to get the party sounding right.

Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Kicker door speakers to make those highs scream and mids roar.

FEATURE BUILD

sam's 2019 sprinter van

This clean 2019 Sprinter Van build by Sam started as a blank slate before getting the full treatment with Spectrum sound deadening. He laid down three coats—using (4) 5 gallon buckets—to cover the floor, walls, and ceiling to create a solid layer across all the metal to kill off vibrations and help block heat from sneaking in. Up top, Sam went with Heat Wave Pro for the roof—super lightweight with great thermal performance—and stuck it down with high-temp spray adhesive. Took (5) sheets to get it done, and now the van’s way quieter and way more comfortable for the road.

2019 Mercedes Sprinter Van Sound Deadening

Sam's 2019 Mercedes Sprinter Van was bare bones before his project began.

COLORADO CAR AUDIO'S 2019 DODGE PRO MASTER 3500 VAN BUILD

This 2019 Dodge Pro Master 3500 was our biggest sound dampening job with a sound system combined to date! We threw down 192 sheets of Damplifier Pro (about 320 sqft) on the floor, doors, walls, and roof with 2 layers of Spectrum (10 gallons) liquid sound deadener on top of that for the sandwich affect. We filled the doors and walls with 18 sheets of Luxury Liner Pro (about 162 sqft) We finished the roof off with 10 sheets of Mega Zorbe Hydrophobic Melamine Foam (about 80 sq ft) to absorb the road noise and thermally insulate the van. This van is HUGE (about 320 square feet of area covered). After turning this van into a vault, we added a killer sound system with JL Audio sound system. The customer was very pleased with the way his Man Van turned out with the interior conversion.

GLEN'S 2018 DODGE 1500 RAM VAN

Glen showed up at the Tucson warehouse and got the full on tour and hand selected products with a little help from Team Second Skin Eric. He had bought a brand new 2018 Dodge Ram Van and needed to quiet the vibrations and stop the echo chamber so him and his doggie could travel the USA.

Glen was going to work/retire and live out of this van, so he needed it dead quiet and thermally insulated. He started off the project with (2) Damplifier Pro Shop Pack XL's for a total of 240 sqft of Damplifier Pro which he installed himself over a weekend.

After the task of skinning the van himself, he decided to have our preferred Arizona installer Steve of Lone Wolf Speed and Customs finish the install. Steve skinned the entire floor area with 60 Sq Ft of Luxury Liner Pro, 90 Sq Ft of Mega Zorbe in the ceiling, and 100 Sq Ft (5) gallons of Spectrum liquid sound deadening across the undercarriage.

Glen's van was dead quiet after this amazing install and ready for the American countryside adventures.

2023 RAM PRO MASTER 2500

Michael ordered both Spectrum liquid sound deadening and the Firewall ceramic coating for this van project. Michael says, "Turn your van into an ice box in the summer heat.

I have experienced two big benefits from Firewall. The first relates to surface temperature drop. I used a laser temp gauge to measure the surface temp of rooftop metal on my Promaster. Areas, where I applied Firewall, were around 100 F less than areas where I hadn’t applied it. But the biggest noticeable difference was in how much less radiant heat I could feel approx 12” away from the surface. The other benefit I had was an additional amount of sound deadening when applied in combination with Spectrum spray on sound-deadening paint from Second Skin.

The difference in driving around on the highway in the summer sun is dramatic - much cooler and quieter. A+ products." Michael shot the entire floor area with 80 Sq Ft of Spectrum followed by Firewall, 50 Sq Ft of Spectrum followed by Firewall on each side wall, 60 Sq Ft of Spectrum followed by Firewallin the ceiling, and 60 Sq Ft of Spectrum followed by Firewall on the doors.
