How to Insulate a Van

The cargo area is the largest section of the van and where most insulation work happens. Focus on the walls, roof, and rear doors first.

After vibration damping, install insulation inside the wall and ceiling cavities. Our preferred options for insulation include:

The van cab includes the headliner and front doors, which are common pathways for heat and road noise. Install van cab insulation like with one of three Insulation options: Mega Zorbe, Heat Wave Pro, and 3M Thinsulate SM400L. These materials are installed behind the headliner and inside the door panels. These materials help absorb noise while reducing heat transfer through the metal surfaces of the cab.

Windows allow a large amount of radiant heat to enter or escape from the van interior. Reflective insulation can help control this heat transfer.

A practical solution is using Heat Wave Pro as a removable reflective window insert. When fitted to window openings, the radiant barrier helps reflect sunlight away from the cabin and improves temperature control during hot weather.

The van floor is a major pathway for hot air to come in from the road. If sound matters to you too, start by applying a vibration control layer using sound deadening material like Damplifier Pro or Spectrum. If not, you can skip it as the barrier layer is the insulation you need.

The engine compartment produces both mechanical noise and heat that can transfer into the cabin.

The firewall can be insulated from either side. On the cabin side, installing Damplifier Pro together with Luxury Liner Pro helps reduce engine noise entering the cab.
