While acoustic door seals are still effective on hollow core doors, we do not recommend them because a hollow core door is not dense enough to stop sound. Even if sound can no longer easily leak around the perimeter of the door, it can easily pass through the door.

Sealing the door is one of the two major components to soundproofing a door. While putting a door sweep or a towel under the door won't do nothing, for a meaningful solution, you'll want to install a door bottom seal on a solid core door to seal the largest gap around your door from sound leaks.

No, you can’t soundproof a hollow core door without obstructing it, and hollow core doors lack the density needed to effectively block noise. If you don't need access to the door, you can use a soundproof blanket or mass loaded vinyl to increase the mass of the door. If you do need access, we recommend replacing the hollow core door with a solid core door.

The best way to soundproof a solid core door is to seal the perimeter of the door using our Sound Lock™ Door Seal Kit. The door seal kit improves the STC rating of a solid core door by 10+ points.

To soundproof an exterior door, you need to make sure the door is completely sealed. Most exterior doors are solid core with rubber gasketing and a threshold to keep them sealed, mostly for thermal reasons. If the door has gaps, our Sound Lock™ Gasket Tape can be used.

Yes, You can soundproof double doors by sealing it with our Sound Lock™ Double Door Seal Kit. Soundproofing double doors follows the same principles as any other door - you just have two of them. The double door seal kit comes with an astragal seal to seal between the doors. French doors have window panes making them weak sound barriers, so you will need to replace the doors with solid core doors or use a Fantastic Frame™ window insert to soundproof those windows.
