FAQs

YES! Soundproof window inserts are extremely effective! Our Fantastic Frame™ Soundproof Window Inserts can reduce sound through your window by up to 80% and reduce energy transfer by up to 60%. Even with a small air gap, these window inserts will reduce noise by 50% or more – even low frequency sounds like road noise! When soundproofing your house, installing these window inserts in every window can reduce energy bills by at least 40%!

For interior windows, there's none better than the Tru Acoustics™ Soundproof Window. It's built to perform in rooms with the highest sound standards, making it the perfect fit for recording studios, gun ranges, theater watch rooms, and more!

If you're looking for an exterior window, there's a HUGE range of performance from single pane windows up to hurricane glass windows. What you want to look for is the STC Rating of the window to determine how good it is at blocking sound. Most residential windows are rated between about a STC 26 and STC 36. An STC 26 window will block 50% of the noise of an STC 36 window.

Factors that affect the STC rating include thicker glass, multiple panes with a large air gap, and being well-sealed when closed. Laminated glass is an upgrade over tempered glass at the same thickness (about 20% quieter). Damping of laminated glass is reduced by cold weather, so in double glass construction, the laminated pane should be on the interior side of the window to maximize performance. With multiple panes, the bigger the air space the better (+2-3 STC points for every doubling of the air gap).

Start with the basics and make sure your window frame is properly sealed with acoustical sealant. After that, you can upgrade any window significantly with the use of a Fantastic Frame™ Soundproof Window Insert, reducing sound through your window by up to 80%.

Yes, a little. Replacing a single pane window with a double or triple pane window will reduce the amount of noise trasmitting through the window, but the STC rating is what really tells you how well a window blocks sound. Here are the common STC ratings of the different types of windows.

Common Window STC Ratings

Type of Window STC Rating
Single Pane Window STC 18–20
Double Pane Window STC 26–28
Triple Pane Window STC 30–35

Not truly. No residential window is completely soundproof, but some perform much better than others. Look for the STC rating—higher is better. Typical windows range from STC 26–36. Upgrades like laminated glass, wider air gaps, and good seals can improve performance. Improve the performance of any window with the Fantastic Frame Soundproof Window Inserts!

Not exactly. Weatherstripping won’t block noise, but sealing an unsealed window can reduce noise transmission by up to 5 dB depending on how poorly sealed it was to begin with.

No, window film blocks UV and reduces heat, but it doesn’t block sound. Pair it with Fantastic Frame Window Inserts for addional energy efficiency plus noise reduction.

No, foam absorbs echo inside a room but isn't heavy enough to block outside noise.

When soundproofing glass walls you need to consider the glass as well as the ceiling above it. If there is a shared dropped ceiling, use CelluZorbe HD Ceiling Tile Backers above ceiling tiles. For the glass itself, add Fantastic Frame™ Window Inserts to improve the STC rating of the glass while keeping that clean glass look.

Start by sealing air leaks with acoustical sealant. For real noise reduction, add a Fantastic Frame™ window insert. Installation is trickier than with standard windows, so grab a helper.
