If you’re setting up in a garage, basement, office, or spare room, soundproofing is the difference between a fun setup and a noisy headache. Impact noise from the striking the mat can travel through floors and be heard in the floor below, and that vibrational energy could even travel to the walls and create more noise for neighboring spaces. That and you're a lot more likely to get the go-ahead for that renovation if you can ensure that the sound of your enjoyment won't be the bane of someone else's. Speaking of your enjoyment, without an acoustical treatment, echoes can make the space sound harsh and break your peace and focus. That's the whole point, isn't it?

Start with isolating the source of the impact: your hitting mat and floor. On their own, most golf hitting mats won't reduce the impact sound from creating noise in the floor below. Using out vibration isolation mats is a great way to improve your current hitting mat. Alternatively (and even suplementally), placing rubber underlayment beneath your simulator flooring will make a big difference.

The sound of hitting the golf ball doesn't seem annoying when you're on the course or at the driving range, but indoors, it's anything but peaceful. Echo comes from hard surfaces—walls, ceiling, even the floor. Add acoustic materials into the room to absorb sound and cover reflective surfaces. Acoustic panels on the walls and even some hidden absorption behind the screen will absorb that extra sound, giving you a premium practice environment.
