Thermal Block™ - Heat Shield

Thermal Block is an excellent heat shield. When testing with a 1000°F heat source, Thermal Block lowered the temperature between its aluminum face and the surface behind it by 81°F to 212°F, depending on distance and angle. The table shows the drop at each position. We still recommend a 2" air gap for safety.

Thermal Block is flexible, so it conforms to curved and irregular surfaces that a rigid shield cannot follow. It installs with peel-and-stick adhesive instead of fasteners. It is a simpler, lower-cost option for hot spots.

Thermal Block is a thicker, multi-layer heat shield with an insulation layer under its aluminum surface. Radiant Shield is our thinnest and most flexible heat shield, made for tight spots and wrapping wires, hoses and pipes. The table compares them.

Thermal Block is a quick fix for hot spots in vehicles. Common spots include the fuel tank, fuel lines, brake lines, spare tire, underbody, transmission tunnel and firewall.

Thermal Block comes in 2 sq ft sheets. You can buy 1 sheet, 4 sheets (8 sq ft) or 10 sheets (20 sq ft). Measure the area you want to cover to see how many sheets you need. Our square footage help page explains how to measure.

The Folded to Ship option costs less because it ships for less. It is folded twice into 3 panels, like a brochure, and arrives in a mailer. The Do Not Fold option ships flat in a 12" x 24" box, as do the 4 sheet and 10 sheet options.

To install Thermal Block, remove any old insulation, then clean the surface with denatured alcohol. Apply it at 65°F or above. Peel off the backing and press it on firmly by hand, with the foil facing the heat source. Tape the seams and edges with foil tape. See our Thermal Block install guide for the full steps.

Cut Thermal Block with a sharp utility knife or scissors. Then tape the seams and edges with foil tape to protect the PET fiber layer.

Thermal Block has a reflective aluminum surface, a non-needled, non-woven PET fiber insulation layer and a pressure-sensitive adhesive backing.

Yes, Thermal Block meets several automotive standards. It passes FMVSS 302 flammability and the Gravelometer test (SAE J400). It also meets General Motors GMN10046, Ford WSS-M9932A/B and Chrysler MS-10943.
