Installation Instructions
Installation Instructions
- Calculate Needed Insulation - As a general rule, to calculate how much insulation you need, multiply the total square footage of the walls by 85% for 16" O.C. framing and 90% for 24" O.C. framing.
- Prepare the Insulation - Shake each batt after removing it from the packaging to help the fibers rebound from compression. Full rebound may take several days, depending on conditions.
- Fit Between Studs - Place each batt firmly into standard 16″ O.C. or 24″ O.C. framing cavities. For off-size cavities, tear along a perforation or cut to size, making pieces about 0.5″ wider and longer than the cavity.
- Cut or Tear Around Obstacles - Create snug fits around plumbing, vent lines, electrical boxes, and other obstructions. Use leftover pieces to fill small gaps around windows, doors, or irregular spaces.
- Install Vapor Barrier if Required - Check local building codes for vapor barrier requirements. If needed, apply a permeable barrier toward the living area after insulation is installed. For exterior walls, a single continuous vapor retarder is preferred over multiple faced batts.
- Install UltraTouch:
- Walls - Insert batt between studs and tuck in for a tight friction fit. About 30% of batts are perforated for quick sizing adjustments.
- Ceilings - Layer batts to reach desired R-value, alternating the direction of each layer. Secure with wire or mesh until drywall is installed.
- Floors & Crawl Spaces - Secure insulation to joists using wire or mesh. In crawl spaces, install vapor barriers over bare ground and on cavity faces (toward the warm side of the subfloor) before installing insulation.
