Quiet Quilt™ Outdoor Soundproof Blanket

Yes, the Quiet Quilt Outdoor Soundproof Blanket is a durable outdoor noise barrier that blocks and absorbs sound. The standard 2" blanket is rated STC 33 for blocking and NRC 0.75 for absorbing. Placement of the blankets, height and width relative to a noise source and covering the full height with no gap at the bottom are all important to achieve the best results. Every situation is different, so call us at 1-800-679-8511 and one of our soundproofing experts can help you plan.

Yes, you can hang the blankets on a fence to reduce road and traffic noise in a yard. A well-built, well-placed soundproof fence can reduce traffic noise by 5+ dB once you break line of sight. The fence will need to be at least 50% taller than the noise source and at full width of the yard. It will also need to be placed either close to the road or close to you to maximize potential. Call us at 1-800-679-8511 to talk through your project.

The soundproof blanket has a mass loaded vinyl (MLV) barrier that blocks sound and a quilted face to absorb sound. The Outdoor Acoustic Blanket has no barrier layer, so it is a less effective sound barrier that focuses more on absorbing sound. At 2" thick, the soundproof blanket is rated STC 33 and the acoustic blanket STC 21. Both have a 0.75 NRC. Choose the soundproof blanket to keep noise from passing through. Choose the acoustic blanket to reduce echo around a court or open space.

The standard blanket is 2" thick with 1 lb MLV and is readily stocked and ready to ship. The 2 lb MLV version is available by custom quote. Choose the 2 lb version for lower-frequency noise or for heavy machinery where maximum sound blocking is required.

The standard blanket is 54" x 96" x 2" (36 sq ft). Custom widths up to 54" and heights up to 25' are available by quote. Request a quote for a custom size, or call us at 1-800-679-8511.

The blanket comes with grommets already installed and Velcro for the seams. Hang it with the quilted side facing the noise source, and attach it at the top and bottom grommets at minimum. Overlap the Velcro 2" onto the next blanket to seal the seam. See our Quiet Quilt install guide for the full steps.

Fastener decisions for outdoor applications are handled locally. Consult your installer or contractor for best install practices for your area based on local codes, climate, and any other factors that need to be considered.

For fences up to 16' tall, we can quote custom blankets with middle grommets, two sets of two at the center of the panel, to keep the blanket from billowing. For fences 16' and taller we recommend two or more stacked rows of blankets.

The blanket lasts 15+ years outdoors, premium colors included. Some colors show slightly more UV fade over time.

Yes, the blanket is made for outdoor weather. It resists UV and water, and it is stitched with GORE TENARA thread and fastened with exterior-rated Velcro.

Yes, you can hang it indoors, but it is not Class A fire rated. If your project needs a Class A rating, choose the Indoor Soundproof Blanket.

Yes, you can do both in the field. A utility knife or heavy-duty scissors cuts the blanket. Reach out to us about our field binding kit, which finishes cut edges with outdoor-grade binding in a matching color. To add a grommet, punch the hole at least 1-1/2" from the edge. Set it with a rubber mallet on a firm, hard surface, and strike it hard enough to fully pinch the material and brass together.

The standard stock blanket comes in Grey. You can also order Tan, Black, and White, with a minimum order quantity of 2 and a 6-8 week lead time. A 12-color premium design range is also available on the 2" version. Premium colors are custom quoted and have a minimum order quantity. See the color options sheet for the full range, and reach out to our team for more details.
