We wanted to find out just how much noise reduction you can realistically expect when adding a Stomp Mat under a golf hitting mat. More people are practicing their swing indoors, resulting in more annoyed family members as impact noise travels through the floor into the rest of the house. We knew that adding the Stomp Mat below a golf hitting mat would be beneficial, but we wanted our acoustical professionals to have more than an educated guess!

TEST SCENARIO

This was not a laboratory test. Instead, it was a practical, real-world evaluation designed to give golfers a practical reference for what the Stomp Mat might do in home golf simulator or hitting net.

1. Home Construction: Wood-framed house
2. Test Location: Second floor, unfinished attic with plywood subfloor
3. Decibel Meter: NIOSH Sound Level Meter App on an iPhone 16 Pro
4. Golf Mat Only test: 0.8" golf hitting mat with 3/8" foam backing
5. Golf Mat + Stomp Mat test: Same golf mat placed over a 1/2" thick Stomp Mat

THE RESULTS

Avg Noise Reduction: ~10 decibels

We feel comfortable estimating an 6-10 decibel reduction (35-50% less perceived noise) for an upstairs golf simulator by laying a 1/2" thick Stomp Mat below a standard golf hitting mat.

THE DATA

The table below shows the peak decibel meter app readings in decibels for each swing. A total of 33 swings were completed by a 15 handicap golfer.
