Default 1981 Ford LTD --- [Finally Some Pics]

Okay, tonight I decided to be ambitious and do some sound deadening. I took out my backseat [only the bottom half], and put down a layer of mat. I knew I had some sludge left over from the trunk [damn near a gallon] also, so I decided to put that down on the floor as well. This is only a small portion of sound deadening, I plan to do much more.

I am waiting for the sludge to dry as I type. I am parked in a warm garage heated, so hopefully it will be dry in about 24 hours. The layer of sludge I put down is VERY thick, so I am thinking I will have to wait much longer than 24 hours. It is okay, I just kind of wanted to be able to put my back seat back in before I went to my classes this Monday. I will probably just park far away so people don't look in my back seat and wonder WTF I am doing, lol.

As you can see where the factory sound deadening covered, I had to scrape it all off, most of it just came up from lightly pulling on it. Some of it I had to use a screw driver to scrape it off.

[All Off ]

I started to lay mat after using Windex to clean the floor. This actually went by very fast, I like deadening this part of the car a lot more than when I deadened the trunk. I plan on finishing when I take off the back part of the seat, which comes off very easily with two torx bolts.

[Done, kind of]

I taped off, so I wouldn't get any on the seat belts or any other important pieces.

Woo hoo, finally some pictures!

And don't worry about people wondering and asking WTF you are doing with your car, I had dozens of people stare at my car for months, even yesterday when I was working on my hood... ::dry:: you'll get use to it :D.

Looking at pictures like this make me miss doing my car :(... I think I really need to find another car to do.

So what else do you have planned (sound deadening wise)?

Well the trunk is basically done, I just need to get some overkill Pro and some Heat Wave, then recarpet it. I hit the lid hard a while back with 4 layers of edead and a thickass layer of Sludge, same with the floor in the trunk.

I also done the rear deck and behind the seat. I am going to take off my rear deck again and add a few more layers to that and bolt something to it to sturdy it up. I may add my remaining sludge to it.

I have done the driver door a little, I still need to put some more in there, I am going to buy a couple more gallons of sludge for the doors.

The sludge makes it look like an elephant shat in my car:lol:

I can't wait till summer break from school, much more deadening will be done

---=Edit=----
Oh yes, my trim pieces around the head liner are all metal believe it or not. I put a layer of mat on them, and then I had bought some crafting foam and I put it behind the pieces. That helped out with interior rattles from the subwoofer A LOT.

The sludge is starting to skin over, I hope it is dry enough to fold carpet down and put seat bottom back in by tomorrow night/evening.

Spectrum is all dry now, and the seats are back in. I think I am going to use the left over spectrum sludge on my drivers door over the two layers of mat I laid in the doors.

I plan on doing the whole floor.

1 Layer of Damplifier
I think that the 40 sq ft pack would be good enough to cover the rest of the floor, I am unsure, it is a big car. I should just go with the 80 sq ft pack to be safe.
1 or 2 Layer(s) of edead (went through 60% of 225 sq ft already)

5 Gallons of sludge (it will probably take about 2.5 for the rest of the floor, but I want to do the doors, and some other places too.)
I don't know if I should do a thickass layer of sludge on the floors, I think I would do the doors first, and everything else, and then use the sludge on the floors just so I can get adequate coverage everywhere.

HeatWave
OverKill
New Carpet w/ 1/8" rubber mass backing

My carpet will be ordered from StockInteriors.com.
$264.85 shipped for molded carpet with 1/8" rubber mass backing and 4 matching carpeted floor mats.

Damplifier (80 Sq.Ft. Pack) --- $187.20

Sludge [x5] (5 gallons) --- $261.29

Those are all without the forum member discount though...Unsure how much it is now.

Carpet with mass backing --- $174.95
Matching Floor Mats --- $54.95
S&H --- $34.95
$264.85[shipped]

Roughly a $923 total...

Well if it helps: From the center of the rear passenger footwells forward i used a 36 sq ft pack of damp pro, plus 4 extra sheets i had from the doors.
I had 5 sheets left over and did an extra layer on both front footwells and another layer on the rear footwells as well as the drivetrain...

So one bulk pack of damp pro should get you there... If you wanted to be safe and do an extra layer, get about 50 sq ft...

If youre going to do only one layer, get damp pro...

As for what else to put on top, im not too sure. But i wouldnt do overkill or heatwave, i would do overkill pro... I have two sheets, most of which still needs to be installed and i like the stuff...
I would do that or a layer of regular overkill overall and a layer of lux liner up front.

Of course i dont know how much heatwave does when applied to the whole floor...

on my install i used sludge too but your coat is MUCH thicker than yours. What did you use to apply it? I tried a spacula but ended it just using my hands. . . yours looks very good and neater than mine was!

-What did u use to apply? The stuff is thick!

What, mine is thicker than yours? I used a latex glove and my hand. I taped off around so I can get a nice straight line. I just grabbed a handful and slapped it down then spread it around as even as I could.

Working on under the front seats right now, I will keep you guys posted. I am doing a slight bit of rust repair ATM. Makes me wish I had a grinder! Using a wirebrush attachment for my drill

Omg, no deadening got done tonight, getting rust down to bare metal with a wire brush attachment took hours...I am going to wait till I take out my dash to paint it to remove the firewall and repair rust behind that.
Passenger Side

WTF are these white bags, they made it so hard to take up the original deadening for some reason after removing them.

Yay ~beer2~

OMG remind me to get new wirebrush attachment. That one sucked...
w00t

Like I said, you can still see some rust under the big mat in the back, I am waiting till i take out my dash so I can remove that then replace it or put the same one back in.

Driver Side

Then a million hours pass...

Can I put sludge over the rust stopping spray for further protection? Then apply mat over it?

Yes you can apply some sludge over the rust converter, then Damplifier. I think Xtreme03 applied a bit of spectrum first (to get the antirust and corrosive protective properties) then laid down his Damplifier.

But not too bad with a wirebrush attachment.

What are those white bags for Froot? I was puzzled when I looked at them. Heat reduction? That seems about right, that's where my cats are come to think of it.

Yeah that's exactly what they were/are for, heat penetration blocking.
A good way to tell if they are exactly that, take your car for a spin and feel how hot that area gets. I'm sure it'll be nice and toasty.

The back seat foot area will be done when I get new carpet. I plan on putting a layer of damplifier over this layer of eDead, along with a layer of Sludge. heatwave and some overkill on top of all that too. And last but not least, the carpet will have 1/8" rubber backing on it.

I would of taken it out for a spin, but my brother is parked behind me. I am glad I get to park in the garage though, this would of sucked outside because it is raining. I am anxious to see how much road noise this cuts down!

--Edit--
Two total layers...4 layers where the cats are located.
