Default Covering other products and paint?

Applied 3 coats of spectrum to the chassis and interior floors (over DP) last week. Applied 2 coats of firewall to the engine bay firewall yesterday. Can I apply additional coats of firewall today or tomorrow? Also how long do I need to wait before I can top coat the Firewall.. using POR-15 top coat chassis black.

Love the products so far though I'm aways from getting on the road just yet.

Thanks

You should be able to apply more coats of firewall as soon as two hours, or the next day if you want.

Top coating, I think you can do it as soon as 72 hours after your last coat. However if you can wait longer that'd be great.

Thanks.. so if I give it 5 - 7 days it should be ok to top coat.

Before the topcoat I was thinking of sanding the firewall for a nice smooth surface. I'd guess this would be OK to do correct?

Yeah that should be enough time.

And yes you can sand firewall, just take the precautions that you would when you sand anything with silica, i.e. a respirator.

Default Coating Spectrum over Firewall and vice versa

I'm curious about how these products work when layered on top of one another, or even mixed together.

I don't know if this would be overkill, but I'm restoring a 1978 Chevy Nova. It's loud as hell and hot as hell.

I'd like to take care of the heat AND cut down on the sound. I would like to put a stereo in after I get a nice and legal exhaust system, but for now, I'd like to not have to scream at my passengers as loudly. I've lost my voice in that thing.

From everything I've read, firewall should be adequate for sound...but what I was wondering is if you were to mix firewall and spectrum and apply them as one substance, would it yield good results?

Or how about 3 layers or so of Firewall, and sludge as kind of a filler before painting? Do the spectrum products work best closer to the sheet metal, or would they work well just the same?

I know I'm asking a lot of questions that have no doubt been asked before, but if I'm going to dish out the money, I'd like to know that I'm doing it right.

Thanks in advance.

Not sure where you ready that firewall is good for sound, but it is not.
Some airborne noise will be reduced due to teh ceramic and hollow glass sphere content, but not much compared to a real noise barrier.
Some, not much.

Here is the skinny.
Spectrum is desinged for noise
Firewall is designed for heat.

NEver mix them together wet and apply.
Apply spectrum to the sheet metal first, then firewall on top of that to help with heat.

Mixing them together would be like mixing a lemon slurpee and hot coffee. You would end up with crapolla.
So, stay away from that idea.

Hope that helps

Hey, it was just an idea.

Spectrum first.

Thank you for clearing that up for me. All I needed to know.

Question On top of POR-15?

I've got silver POR-15 in the floorboard of my 67 Camaro to address rust issues.

Would it work well to use firewall on top of the POR-15, then a product like Dynamat? Sorry to bring dynamat into the mix, but I've already got some of the product so I figured I'd use it up.
